All graduates from Oakland Public High School; McClymond’s, Skyline and East Oakland School of The Arts graduates with honors. We are proud Oaklanders and sharing our talents, skills and education back to our community.

Sistas-Wit-Style is a Caribbean folk performing dance troupe. It is a non-profit 501(c) (3). We have been in business for seven years. Throughout our seven years we have traveled to Miami, Texas, Los Angeles, around Northern California, Trinidad and Tobago for the fourth consecutive year. Our goal is to serve the community through dance and drums and show that the youth can make a positive difference in the community. We’re determined to give back to our community for their outstanding dedication and support. We are located in East Oakland, California. In December 2006 we were honored by distinguished people in the community and received awards from Congress Woman Barbara Lee, California Legislature Assembly, and County of Alameda. December 2008 were honored by Mayor Ronald Dellums.

The idea came from us teaching the culture of the Caribbean at a young age and experiencing lives change and attending various schools. A positive to children and teens in December an on stage show and banquet showing their arts and skills in dance and drum and May for Carnival. Our dance classes improved the children’s self-esteem, lose weight and work habits. We want to know how we can make a difference in children’s and teens lives through dance and drums. Since there’s so much negativity we can show children how to express themselves in a positive way. We are given the opportunity to express our passion for change and dance through this project and  get others to participate.

This project is a community project because we recruit students from various schools within Oakland and San Francisco areas. Some of the schools that are involved  is Castlemont High School, East Oakland School of The Arts, Santa Fe Elementary, and Girls after school program where we  teaches after school dance classes , we  serve low-income and disadvantage children, youths and adults. Our goal is to get people involved no matter what their financial situation is. We teaches free classes on Saturday for the community at largr, everyone is welcome

This project makes a difference because it gets more people involved within cultural events, shows cultural diversity among children, youth and adults, as well as within our organization. The program motivate individuals and build self-esteem within. Allowing our dancers and drummers to participate in carnival, parades and different community projects,  will allow them to experience various cultures. This experience is not like the others; it is fun-filled, energetic, and a way to relax. Participating in our projects motivates individuals to become more active with opportunities available in the community, become knowledgeable about the Caribbean culture.

Last year we did a survey and the parents were extremely pleased and it was such a success that we’ve added  drum classes. We  give people the opportunity to complete a survey to determine our accomplished  project goals. It helps us to make room for improvements. Also we’ll see who actually enjoyed the new experience and who’s willing to participate again. We will take any feed back from parents, teachers, and principals.
